Honestly, who doesn’t like the idea of receiving presents every month straight to their door!? I’ve been dying to test a beauty box subscription but had difficulty trying to choose the best value box on my student priced budget! I came across the company GLOSSYBOX after reading the Independent’s article “12 best beauty subscription boxes”, which in summary provides a quick description of “the best” beauty boxes. GLOSSYBOX had hundreds of good recommendations therefore I was quick to subscribe and give it a go! I Thought I’d share my experience with GLOSSYBOX with you all.
How it works:
GLOSSYBOX is a subscription service in which a gorgeous box containing 5 mystery beauty products are sent to you monthly. The box is said to have a minimum value of £33 and includes brands such as Clarins, Lancome, Essie and The Balm. Products come in various sizes from sample sizes to full size.
My experience / review:
Firstly I spent a long time researching into different beauty subscription boxes to find the right one for me. GLOSSYBOX fit my requirements straight away with its price of £10 +£3.25 p&P (£13.25 total) , it’s budget friendly price led me to discover more on the brand.
The subscription service allows you to pick a 1 month, 3 month, 6 month or 12 month plan. As I was new to the whole beauty box subscription world I chose a monthly plan that although works out the dearest choice, it enables you to cancel the subscription at any time.
The subscription method online was quick, agg free and has easy to follow instructions. After entering my details and subscribing I was taken through to my “Beauty Profile” in which you fill out various questions about your hair type to your skin type. This enables GLOSSYBOX to tailor items better to your preferences.
At checkout I used the code “JANGIFT” which I’d found online (alternatively use the code “TREATME”) that added on 3 free beauty products to my original GLOSSYBOX. After subscribing my first GLOSSYBOX was delivered promptly 3 days later.
The packaging consisted of a black and white cardboard box which held the main GLOSSYBOX inside and oh boy was I in for a surprise…..
The baby pink box is adorable, well made and reusable. On opening the box you will find various inserts of which contain a welcome card and list of all products featured within the box (inc product descriptions, RRP’s and where to buy them).
The pink tissue paper with the black ribbon bow had me squealing with excitement as its startling packaging screams luxury.
The products were laid out beautifully in the box with an added touch of shredded tissue paper at the bottom to keep the products from moving about.
What was in the January 2017 GLOSSYBOX?
- NIP+ FAB , Kale Fix Moisturiser – Travel size 30ml
“A superfood powerhouse of kale, watercress and almond oil. This moisturiser enriches skin and protects it against external aggressors, from pollution to stress, while concentrated aloe Vera and shea butter help to soothe and smooth skin”
True to its description the product is packed full of moisturising goodies however because of its thick highly moisturising consistency this moisturiser is way too rich for my combination/ oily skin so I’ve passed this product on to my mum who will hopefully love it. I’m not a fan of its cucumber-like scent however this is down to personal preference and many of my friends love this type of scent in products.
Full Bottle RRP: £19.95
- SPA TO YOU, Deep Pore Cleansing Facial Brush- Full size
I’m sure you’ve heard of all the rave about facial brushes last year and I’ve being dying to get my hands on the “Clarisonic Aria Sonic Cleansing Brush” (£155- Boots) but have been sceptical as to whether it would be too rough on my skin as it’s a big investment. So hopefully the SPAY TO YOU Facial brush will give me a sneaky insight and introduction into facial brushes as it has “silky soft bristles and silicone cushions to deeply cleanse and gently massage the face”. I’ll give you guys a further update in a later post as to how its working out.
- THE BALM, Meet Matt(e) Trimony Single Eyeshadow
This is my favourite product from the box as its buttery formula is highly pigmented and in a beautiful burgundy shade “Matt Kumar”. The Balm palettes already have a big cult following due to their highly loved matte eyeshadow palettes so I was eager to get my hands on The Balm shadows. The packaging is compact and cute but the actual pan is very tiny with only 0.5g POIDS of product in it. The single eyeshadow is from The Balm’s Meet Matt(e) Trimony Eyeshadow Palette (RRP: £34- The Balm, £37.49- Superdrug, £39- Debenhams). I live for warm toned shadows and this deep cranberry/ burgundy shade is right up my ally. I’ve used the shadow twice now and have fallen
I love with it.
RRP: Unknown– This is not a direct product for sale however the Meet Matte Trimony Palette is priced at £37.49 at Superdrug
- UNANI , Illuminate Milk Cleanser, full size 200ml
“This gentle cleansing milk is based on nutritious natural oils, which purify and protect your skin by removing impurities including makeup, leaving it soft and recharged”. The product is true to its description and cleanses the face without over drying the skin by taking away natural oils. The milky white coloured liquid is silky and lightweight and is perfect calming way to end the day during the harsh winter! This product would be great for those who have normal – combination skin.
- VITAMASQUES, Manuka Honey Face Mask, Full size (1 mask, 20ml)
This year I am determined to dive into the world of facemasks as I’ve initially been put off after a previous skin reaction to one. “The Korean face mask is moisturising with extract of Manuka Honey to nourish, hydrate and moisturise the skin. Inspired by Korean innovation, a triple layer sheet technology designed to enhance the moisture content within the mask and lead to an increased absorption rate within the skin”. I LOVE THIS MASK, the moisturising qualities was perfect to use after these cold winter temperatures we’ve been experiencing in England recently which has been giving my skin a battering. It left my skin feeling soft and hydrated.
I am very pleased with my GLOSSYBOX this month and will continue my subscription and hopefully discover some hidden gems!
- Very affordable and reasonably priced
- Amazing luxe packaging
- Box is reusable
- You receive a variety of products from skincare to makeup
- “Discover the Box” leaflet included in the box includes all product descriptions and prices for further information
- Quick delivery
- The company states that it tries its best to tailor products to client’s skin colours/types however with high demands it may not be possible. In this month’s box this seems to be the case however I am pleased with all products included.
- You may not like everything in the box – but this is the beauty and concept of the box, discovering new beauty products each month.
